As of July 29, 2003 there are forty-seven certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs in S.C. and six satellite facilities. The programs are governed by the Joint Committee on Cardiac Rehabilitation, the S.C. Medical Association/American Heart Association, S.C. Affiliate. The role and purpose of the Joint Committee is as follows:
- Develop and implement a mechanism for certification of cardiac rehabilitation programs in South Carolina
- Encourage development of new cardiac rehabilitation programs in the state
- Plan and coordinate the presentation of workshops on cardiac rehabilitation for the purpose of training potential staff members or new programs
